What is radiation work?

A:

According to the Radiation Ordinance, radiation work means work by any person which involves “proximity” to any irradiating apparatus in operation. The word “proximity”, in relation to any irradiating apparatus, means a position in which a person may be liable to receive a dose of radiation exceeding 6 millisieverts to any part of the body if such position were retained by him for one calendar year.

How does the requirement of medical examination apply to my employees?

A:

According to the Radiation Ordinance, no employer/proprietor shall employ any person in radiation work or work/process involving the handling or transport of any unsealed radioactive substances unless the person is aged 18 or above and has been certified fit for such employment by the Radiation Board within the period of 4 months immediately preceding his/her first employment, or for any period not exceeding 14 months for continuous employment by the employer/proprietor.
