Those ionisation smoke detectors containing radioactive substances, which have been provided by suppliers holding valid radioactive substances licences, should have labels affixed on the outside of the smoke detectors. The label shall show that when the smoke detector is no longer required, it must be returned to the licenced suppler as indicated on the label for disposal. In this connection, when an ionization smoke detector is no longer required thereby needing disposal, the disposal shall be conducted in accordance with the way as shown on the label and contact the concerned licenced supplier accordingly. Prior approval from the Radiation Board shall be sought if other ways of disposal of the smoke detector are planned.
